3 Pool Design Decisions To Review Twice

by Franklin Wilson

Building a pool is an exciting opportunity. As such, once a person has made the decision to build, they are often eager to move forward as quickly as possible. There is absolutely nothing wrong with moving in haste, but to ensure you do not end up with a pool you regret, there are some design decisions that you need to think about twice.

1. Location

Where a pool is placed in a yard is a very important decision, as placement can play a role in the enjoyability of a pool. For example, the further away from your home the pool is constructed, the more sun is likely to hit the pool.

In very warm climates, this can make swimming in the pool during the middle of the day less enjoyable. On the other hand, if you have children, constructing the pool too close to your home might limit your ability to see the entire perimeter of the pool.

2. Size

Another thing to consider is the size of the pool. When it comes to size, the number of people in your family, how often you entertain, and how you plan to use your pool are just some of the factors that should go into determining the size of the pool.

For example, if you are someone with a small family but you entertain often, a larger pool might be necessary. Similarly, a couple without children might also elect for a larger pool if they want to be able to swim laps in the pool to allow for more room.

3. Depth

When it comes to determining the depth of a pool, it is important to think about your wants today, as well as what they might be tomorrow. Consider a family with two children under ten that plan to live in the home forever. Currently, it might not seem like a good idea to build a pool with a deep end.

However, over the years, a pool without a deep end might be less enjoyable for the entire family. In addition to the total depth, think about how you want the pool constructed. For example, you can build a sports pool in which the deeper depth of the pool is in the middle.

When you take the time to review your design plans, you can ensure that your pool is something you and your family love just as much years down the line as you do today.

Working So You Can Take a Swim

At the end of a long, hot day, nothing feels better than sinking into a cool pool of water. But think about all it takes to build and maintain that pool. A pool contractor had to first design the pool before pouring the concrete that comprises it. Then, as the pool ages, someone needs to make repairs when the surfaces starts peeling. That's not to mention the daily maintenance, like checking chlorine levels or scrubbing away algae. Pool contractors have an important job, and they're the reason you can take a relaxing swim.
