Working So You Can Take a Swim

Luxury Doesn't Mean Limited

by Franklin Wilson

Look up pictures of luxury pools, and you'll often see elaborate setups that make the pool look more like a natural grotto or like something out of a resort. If you've wanted to get a swimming pool for a while and have saved up so you could look for a "luxury" pool, you might think that these are the only examples of what your pool should look like.

But, that's not the case. These are merely a few examples of what your pool could look like if you so choose. Luxury pools are not limited to the specific examples you see in brochures. You have options for customization that let you make the pool as visually understated or exciting as you want. True luxury for a pool lies in the materials and workmanship.

Does the Pool Have to Have Fancy "Tropical" Landscaping?

You'll see a lot of pools with waterfalls, "natural" rocks and trees along one side instead of a typical pool edge, and even fountains in the middle of the pool. You don't have to go this far if you don't want to. A luxury pool can look like a typical pool surrounded by concrete, too. The difference is that the construction is of high quality, and the materials are chosen for their durability and ability to stay working for a longer time. If you do choose to have one of those forested, tropical-style setups, the materials should be top-notch, and the design should be one that is easy to maintain.

What Options Are There That Aren't Rocks or Concrete Ledges?

If you don't want a typical concrete ledge and really don't want the "natural" look with trees and waterfalls, you have a few other options. One potential look is the beach-entry look. Instead of a concrete ledge with some steps and a handrail, you have a gentle slope into the pool that makes that side look like you're able to walk into a lake. There are no steps, just the slope. Of course, it would be nice to have some areas with ledges so you could sit at the side of the pool and dip your feet in.

How Much Say Does the Customer Get in the Design?

If you're paying for a luxury pool, you'll get a lot of say in the design. You might have budget limits, of course, and what you want has to be something that the pool company can actually build. But you will have many chances to sit with the designers and tell them what you want, as well as find out what suggestions they have.

A luxury pool is something that is built well using top-of-the-line products. The actual design can be whatever you choose, from something that looks very basic to something out of this world. Contact a luxury pool builder—such as Patriot Pools—today to start exploring your options.

About Me

Working So You Can Take a Swim

At the end of a long, hot day, nothing feels better than sinking into a cool pool of water. But think about all it takes to build and maintain that pool. A pool contractor had to first design the pool before pouring the concrete that comprises it. Then, as the pool ages, someone needs to make repairs when the surfaces starts peeling. That's not to mention the daily maintenance, like checking chlorine levels or scrubbing away algae. Pool contractors have an important job, and they're the reason you can take a relaxing swim.
