by Franklin Wilson

Hot tubs are a wonderful addition to any home. It gives you a place to relax or to entertain. They come in a variety of sizes that can suit your needs, including anything from a one-person hot tub to a party size hot tub that can seat up to 12 people or more. If you have a hot tub, or if you are looking to invest in one, you should know what you need to do to care for it to help lengthen the life of your new addition. Read on for helpful tips on how to lengthen the life of your hot tub.

Clean Your Hot Tub

Keep your hot tub clean by removing the water inside and giving it a deep clean with hot tub cleaner; don't use any other type of household cleaner. You need to use something that is made for hot tubs to prevent the interior from drying out or causing it to crack and break. Drain the water from your hot tub from the drain and use a soft cloth or a sponge to deep clean your hot tub. Oils from your body can build up on the inside of the hot tub. Rinse your hot tub out with clean water to remove the cleaner and fill your hot tub back up again. You also need to clean the inside and outside of your hot tub cover. This cover is what protects your hot tub, so be sure to keep this in good shape so it protects it properly. Clean the cover with a mild detergent and rinse it thoroughly.

Use Your Hot Tub Properly

Make sure you are using your hot tub properly. Don't overload it with people, only the amount the hot tub holds is all that should ever be in the hot tub. Overloading it can cause too much stress on your hot tub and the extra weight can cause it to break. Be sure that no one sits on the top of the hot tub. You should only sit in the seats inside, not on the edge. Doing so can also cause it to crack. Unless there is a seat, nobody should be sitting there.

Add The Proper Chemicals

Make sure you are adding the proper chemicals to your hot tub. Don't pour bleach or other types of chemicals in it. You need to use chemicals made for hot tubs. Chlorine, pH, and bromine are just a few of the chemicals needed in your hot tub. You can use a testing kit to test the chemicals in your hot tub and to see what needs to be added or lowered.

If you have a hot tub, you need to take good care of it in order to lengthen its life.
