3 Things Every Swimming Pool Owner Needs to Keep Their Kids Safe From Drowning

by Franklin Wilson

Whether you have really young kids who are still crawling or you have older kids, the risk of them drowning around a swimming pool can be high in some instances. To ensure that they are as safe as possible and that you don't have to always be worried about them falling in and drowning, there are three things that you may want to look into.

1. A Custom Pool Cover

Keeping your swimming pool covered when you're not outside with your children is one of the best things you can do to prevent a drowning accident. But before you go out and grab just any pool cover, consider getting a custom one instead. A custom pool cover will cover every square inch of your pool to ensure that nobody could accidentally fall underneath and get stuck. Additionally, these pool covers can be motorized, which means that you won't have to put them on or take them off by hand; all you will have to do is press a button and it will get taken care of.

2. Survival Swimming Lessons

Another thing that you can do for your really young kids (ages about 6 months to 4) is put them in survival swimming classes. These types of swimming classes are designed to give young children the basic skills they need if they were to fall into a pool when an adult wasn't around. For instance, these classes will teach your young baby or toddler how to float on their back as soon as they fall in the water. Just remember that in order for them to learn these survival skills, they will literally have to sink before they can swim, but their instructors will be there to teach them every step of the way.

3. Get a Pool Gate

Pool gates are another thing that you should have around our pool. A pool gate can be custom made or it can be something that you can take down once our kids get older. The whole goal of a gate is to make sure that when your little ones are outside they can't get even near your swimming pool without being supervised by an adult. When you go shopping for a pool gate, the pool company will help custom fit one for your yard and the style of your yard as well.

Working So You Can Take a Swim

At the end of a long, hot day, nothing feels better than sinking into a cool pool of water. But think about all it takes to build and maintain that pool. A pool contractor had to first design the pool before pouring the concrete that comprises it. Then, as the pool ages, someone needs to make repairs when the surfaces starts peeling. That's not to mention the daily maintenance, like checking chlorine levels or scrubbing away algae. Pool contractors have an important job, and they're the reason you can take a relaxing swim.
