The Green Pool Cleaning Guide To Get Rid Of Algae

by Franklin Wilson

Algae blooms are possible problems with pools that can be unavoidable. When there are algae in your pool, you are going to want to get it clean. There is an entire process that you will need to go through to get the algae out of the water.

Dealing with algae can be a headache, but it is easy if you know what to do. First, you are going to need to raise the chlorine level. You need to care for the filter and add treatments to get the algae out of the water. The following pool cleaning guide will help you deal with your green water problems:

  • Backwash and Change Filtration Medium—The pool filter is something that needs to have maintenance done throughout the summer. When there is a problem with algae, the filter is going to need more maintenance. First, you want to backwash the filter to clear out the debris. As you move forward with removing the algae, you will also want to replace the filtration medium to ensure that the algae are not circulating back into your pool once it is clean.
  • Add a Chlorine Shock Treatment—Chlorine levels in the pool need to be high enough to kill organisms that colonize in standing water. The process of raising the chlorine levels is done with a special shock treatment. These treatments raise the levels of chlorine higher so that organisms cannot grow. The shock treatment will help inhibit the growth of algae and other organisms as you get your pool clear again.
  • Use Algae Pool Treatments—Algae treatments for pools are formulated to inhibit blooms from starting. These are treatments that need to be occasionally be added to the water to prevent algae problems. These treatments can be added to prevent algae, as well as when you are trying to get rid of algae blooms.
  • Remove Any Debris From the Pool—Debris can be the perfect recipe for algae blooms to start. This is often due to fungus and organisms that are already growing on materials and objects outdoors. Therefore, you want to make sure to remove any debris from your pool before it begins to cause problems.
  • Circulate Water To Clear The Pool—One of the best ways to prevent algae blooms is to circulate the water. You may not always have the pump on, but you will need to use it to clear algae. When cleaning up algae blooms, you will want to keep water circulating through the filter. This will remove algae and help clear up the water in your pool.

These are the things that you are going to need to do to deal with green algae blooms. If you are having trouble getting the water in your pool clean again, contact a pool cleaning service for help with the problem.
