New Spa? How To Take Care Of It

by Franklin Wilson

Spas are meant to be relaxing and to help provide a source of entertainment. They can be used for destressing after a long day or to give you and your friends a place for fun and entertainment at your next party. If you have a spa, though, you also know that spas need some maintenance and cleaning in order to ensure they work properly. Read on for tips to help you take care of your spa.

Test The Water

No, you aren't going to dip your toe in to see if it's the right temperature; testing your water means to check that the water is safe enough to be in. Test the water with a spa water testing kit, which can be found at your local pool/spa supply store. Follow the instructions on the water testing kit that you chose. With some kits, you simply dip a test supply stick into the water and check the levels according to the colors on the test stick. Whatever your test tells you, you may need to add chemicals to the water.

Add Chemicals

After testing your water, you need to add chemicals to the water. If you don't know what chemicals are needed or how much to use, you can ask someone at your local spa supply store. Usually, chlorine and bromine are the two main chemicals that are added to a spa, but your spa may need something else, such as non-chlorine shock. Always ask for help if you aren't sure what to use; this way, you aren't wasting money throwing in unnecessary chemicals.

Clean The Spa

Oils from the body are going to end up around the waterline of your spa. This line is going to need to be cleaned with a gentle spa cleaner. Clean the spa every couple of weeks or more often, depending on how often you use your spa. Remove the oils built up on the waterline. If you have any dirt on the bottom of the spa, be sure to clean this up, as well. If need be, empty the water out of your spa to give your spa a deeper clean, and then add new water to your spa. Remember to clean the cover of your spa as well, as the underside can accumulate with dirt and other buildup.

If you have a spa, you're going to need to care for it properly to ensure it is safe for use and runs properly.

Working So You Can Take a Swim

At the end of a long, hot day, nothing feels better than sinking into a cool pool of water. But think about all it takes to build and maintain that pool. A pool contractor had to first design the pool before pouring the concrete that comprises it. Then, as the pool ages, someone needs to make repairs when the surfaces starts peeling. That's not to mention the daily maintenance, like checking chlorine levels or scrubbing away algae. Pool contractors have an important job, and they're the reason you can take a relaxing swim.
